sustainable stylist, personal style, fashion style, spring style

I am about to share a secret that you would typically need to pay me as your stylist to reveal…

But here it is…

The secret to infusing your wardrobe with more style, life, and excitement:

ELEVATE

That’s right; elevate your outfit to the next level. This is a pretty simple concept, but many of us are walking through life acting as if it’s as difficult as dancing like Beyonce.

Our outfits and the way we dress are a non-verbal communicator. Which means most times our outfit speaks for us before we can get a word out. Have you thought about what your outfit is communicating before?

Simply put, Elevating your look is adding, or subtracting, an element of your outfit to take it to the next level.

There is something that happens in our brains when we look at a person and can sense that they were intentional when they got dressed. We can tell. Even if it’s not our own style, we recognize that it HAS STYLE. Real recognize real, y’all. AND when you rock an outfit with confidence, man oh man, all bets are off. Everyone can feel the style and confidence radiating out of you.

The fun part is you don’t end up ACTUALLY having to try very hard to appear as if you tried really hard. Make sense? Adding an element to your look can be as simple as tucking, adding a belt, or taking away too much jewelry.

Let’s see some examples:

Outfit 1: Casual Saturday

White T-Shirt Untucked With Jeans and Sneaker

What is this communicating? It feels sloppy and TOO casual. Adding very little effort to this outfit will not only make it look better, but YOU will FEEL better while wearing it. Confidence can help you pull anything off.

ELEVATE

By simply tucking the shirt and adding a belt it automatically communicates that we put in more effort and were intentional with our outfit.

Bonus: Swapping different shoes can communicate a drastically different message.

Outfit 2: Headed To Work

She just feels like she has so much potential, but is missing something, or a few things. There’s that saying, “you should be dressing for the job you want, not the job you have,” and I am a believer in it! What is this outfit communicating? Besides, “I need a steamer or iron”.

ELEVATE

Before elevating, this outfit felt frumpy. By adding a layer, and tucking this blouse in, it shows an intentional effort. It took the outfit to a different place and it now communicates something much different. Adding a shoe with a slight heel also helps to quite literally elevate an outfit… Get it?

Outfit 3: Dressed Up Summer Fun

Plot twist; this outfit is TOO MUCH. To elevate this look we actually need to take some, or most, items away. Elevating doesn’t just apply to adding pieces, it can also mean simplifying. This dress has enough going on its own without any extra elements, don’t you think?

ELEVATE

This outfit felt way TOO much. Too many accessories and too much happening. By swapping in a thinner belt and a more minimal shoe, it made this look feel less overdone and more intentional and natural.

Elevating by subtracting.

It’s math…not really

I promise this involves minimal effort but yields maximum rewards. If you’re ready for compliments and confidence, start elevating my friend.

Ok, your turn. How are you going to elevate your next outfit
